Long Sleeve Striped Tee paired with Long Olive Vest and Tassel Necklace

Happy Monday, friends! I wanted to touch on something a bit different today.

When I was at church yesterday my pastor said something that really pulled on my heart strings. I immediately thought, yes - that's exactly how I'm feeling - and then, this would be great to discuss on the blog.

So, as we enter a new year everyone is setting New Year's Resolutions. Some people refuse, because they feel it's a waste of time, and some people dive in head first.

I happen to be one of the people who dove in head first, but also, I did it a little differently this year. I am not putting so much pressure on eating perfectly, or working out every single day, but more so - giving attention to things that weighed heavy on my heart last year (myself, relationships and well, of course health and fitness).

So, what's this thing that my pastor said that really got me thinking? He said, in regards to making New Year's Resolutions - "are you doing it for the sparkle or for the soul"?

Think about that for a second.

It took me a minute to fully grasp what he was getting at. Basically, when you set resolutions this year did you do it because you want to look better on the outside, seem like you're a better person on the surface, and because you really, really want that nice car or materialistic thing (SPARKLE)? Or did you do it because deep down in your core you want to become a better person (SOUL)? What do you really want to change about yourself - and I'm not talking about just what people can see.

For me, I don't know. I mean, I know there are things I want to fix about myself, but how do you know? He talked about a vision. Do we have a vision for ourselves, or do we know what His vision is for us? I like to think I have a vision for myself, but when I stop and think about it, something tells me it's not the same vision that our pastor was talking about. He talked about his vision and how he knew it at 6 years old. What?! How?

Well how do the rest of us figure that out? Again, I don't know. I don't have all of the answers. His recommendation was to pray about it. So that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to pray and hope for a sign of what my vision is. And while I'm doing that, there's also something else that I'd like to do.

I want to read a book I've recently heard a little bit about. How's Your Soul? And I would love it if you joined me. I mean, what's the harm in a quick read? Something to get you thinking, help you cherish the moments - I can't think of anything better. Plus, it seems fitting for today's post, yeah?

No timeline, no restrictions - just a book to read - and when you're done, tell me what you thought of it.

Basically, what I want in 2017 is for this blog to become something more than a style blog. I think I opened that door a bit last year when I started to share our infertility journey. I want us to connect. Tell me your hardships and I'll tell you mine. Let's do this together. What do you wanna know? What do you wanna see?

I want to know who you are. What makes you click. What do you enjoy, and what are your biggest struggles?

I know it's not easy for everyone to open up and share their most intimate stories, and that's okay. But if you're willing, and you want to follow my blog to the next journey, feel free to leave me a comment. If you don't feel comfortable leaving it on the blog - email me, or DM and message me on social media.

We're friends after all. And I want to know more about the people behind the screen reading my blog. I appreciate each and every one of you. You've given me the opportunity to share my thoughts, and my style, and I'll forever be grateful.

  2. love this. I know I've done plenty of things for the "sparkle" and the last few months I have been working on my soul and plan on continuing to do so.

    1. Thanks, Maddy! Same here. I feel like I set some for the "sparkle" for sure, but I also have some for the soul. Glad you're working on it as well!
