It's officially 2016. I cannot believe it! 2015 might have been the fastest year yet. I'm hoping that 2016 slows down just a bit.

But with that, can the first Monday back after all the holidays please be quick? Funny how that works - huh? Wishing for one thing one minute and hoping for the complete opposite the next. Ha! It's life.

I have to say that 2015 went out with a bang... lazy PJ party and all. And 2016 started off just right.

Chris and I were able to join my sister, niece and her friend Saturday morning volunteering our help with clean-up for the families affected by the recent tornadoes. I don't want to get into too much detail on here because it really was devastating and sad and difficult to see, but it was a great opportunity and I am beyond thankful that we were able to help.

Although to us it seemed like such a small task - picking up trash, taking broken pieces of wood and shingles from backyards to the trash pile out front, it wasn't. It was a huge task that seemed so small because of the group of 15-20 people we had helping. To see how quickly we were able to transform someone's back yard from a broken mess to a more livable situation was exciting.

From watching the looks of gratitude on the owner's faces to being a part of a bible presentation when our job there was complete was an honor.

It's easy to take each day for granted when your life has never been affected by such tragedy. I do it, we all do and I'm sure we will continue to do so, but being able to give back and see firsthand how quickly something can turn your life upside down - I think it's good for your soul.

I can honestly tell you that it will change something inside of you. There's something about seeing it in person. And there's something about seeing the real people that were affected.

If you haven't had the chance to volunteer or give-back, I highly encourage you to do so. Not only will you be brightening someone else's day, month or year - you'll feel the best you've ever felt.

Now that's something money can't buy.

Here's to 2016. Let's make it a good one!
